What I decided to do for the night photography assignment is a little different. I decided to take my photos on a cloudy day in the late afternoon because I happened to be in Boston that weekend, knowing I could capture some really good settings. For capturing these images I had used just a regular point and shoot camera. I knew trying to capture a night photo was very difficult to do during the day but I was willing to give it a shot. In the first and third image you can see that I tried to place the small amount of light source behind a large object like the building and the tree so it appeared darker then it was. I also think it being cloudy that day added to the mysterious atmosphere a night photo can convey. In the second image there wasn't much of a light source but I used a sense of leading lines and depth, from the opened gate to the door in the distance, in order to keep the image interesting. In photo shop I converted my images into black and white to help create the sense that they were taken at night. I think the black and white helps add more contrast to the images as well. My favorite images out of these are the first and third one. I like the first image because the building has an older look to it which I believe adds a mysterious persona. I really like the third image because its just an interesting subject. In a park across from Mass Art had sculptures in it, and this sculpture is of broken drawing horses. I think this was perfect for night photography because it creates a sense of mystery and intrigue. It creates a great narrative. Overall, I am very happy with the subject of my photos.
